FAQs

  • What does a Psychiatrist treat?

Psychiatrists treat people in distress due to various mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions.

  • As a Psychiatrist, do you just prescribe medication?

I am therapeutically-oriented by nature. I have also been formally medically trained and have acquired up-to-date knowledge of the most effective treatments for various conditions. I have focused my training and work experience on gaining the best knowledge possible for these types of therapies and medication recommendations. For many conditions, therapy is as effective or more so than available medications. However, for other conditions, medication has been shown to be inarguably more effective than therapy.

  • Do you take insurance?

I currently accept the following Insurance Plans:

    UnitedHealthcare

    Oxford Health Plans

    Cigna

    Aetna

    UMR

    Oscar

    UHC Student Resources

    AllSavers UHC

    Harvard Pilgrim

    Meritain

    Nippon

I also accept self-pay patients. At the end of each visit, I offer to provide a medical service receipt (superbill) which has the information an insurance company needs to provide reimbursement for eligible customers.

  • Do I need to visit your office in person?

You can receive treatment with me through virtual telehealth (online) visits.

  • How are virtual visits different than in-person visits?

Clinical studies show there are no differences in outcomes between in-person and virtual telehealth visits. Virtual visits allow for a number of advantages, including convenience and elimination of commute to a psychiatrist’s office. You can meet with me anywhere with an internet connection!

  • What are your rates?

Please email me directly at DrL@ResiliencyPsychiatry.com for self-pay (out-of-network) rates.

  • What states do you provide psychiatric and addiction services in?

I am licensed to practice in California and Texas and can see anyone who resides in either of these states. I will be adding more states in the near future.

  • How do I make an appointment?

There are several options, each require a questionnaire that helps me determine what your needs are prior to meeting for the first time:

    1. Go to Alma to Request a Consultation-->This is recommended for all insurance patients.

    2. Go to my Consultation page to schedule a 15 min call: Request a Consultation

    3. Email me directly: DrL@ResiliencyPsychiatry.com

  • What does the initial visit entail?

Once your visit is confirmed, I will send you access to the patient portal, where you will need to enter your phone number, email, address, and a valid credit card for processing fees for future appointments.

Once this information is entered, I will send you consent forms and my unique and thorough Pre-Session Comprehensive Questionnaires. These questions evaluate your psychiatric history, medical history, past trauma experiences, substance use, lifestyle factors and treatment goals.

Filling out these Comprehensive Questionnaires before we meet allows me to focus our session on what matters most to you, with more time spent building our therapeutic relationship. This also allows plenty of time to discuss an integrative treatment plan. Treatment options can include therapy, medications, nutrition testing, diet recommendations, lifestyle change recommendations, worksheets, meditation practices, and recommended bloodwork.

  • What types of treatment might you recommend?

Treatment recommendations can include therapy, medications, nutrition testing, diet recommendations, lifestyle change recommendations, worksheets, reading resources, meditation practices, and recommended bloodwork. My primary treatment recommendations will be that which is supported by the greatest evidence.

  • How long does treatment last and how frequent are appointments?

Treatment varies by condition. Whenever possible, I use time-limited therapeutic approaches. This is often 10-, 12-, or 20-sessions; but sometimes less. Psychotherapy usually begins weekly. Sometimes--and for some conditions--treatment extends longer. When starting or changing medications, appointments are usually every 1-4 weeks. Established medication-only cases occur every 1-3 months.

Suboxone MAT appointments are a unique situation: these follow-ups are done monthly while in treatment with required urine screenings 4 times per year minimum.

  • When can I consider you my doctor?

I am your doctor only after we have mutually agreed to a treatment plan and signed a doctor-patient contract agreement. Therefore, visiting this website, initial email or phone communication, initial evaluation, or any other contact prior to signing a doctor-patient contract agreement does not constitute a doctor-patient relationship. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy or any other, do not hesitate to contact me.

  • What is your Cancellation Policy?

Cancellations should be made at least 48 hours prior to the appointment time. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the appointment time will be charged $100 fee. No Shows will be charged $100 for a follow up visit and $200 for initial visit No Show.

  • Are patient records safe?

Absolutely. I run an environmentally-conscious practice, which includes an electronic health record which complies with the highest standards of privacy protection, including secured servers. All credit card information is required to be protected (PCI Compliance).

  • Is my video visit safe?

Yes! All telehealth video technology is HIPAA compliant, and is never recorded or used outside of the active visit.

  • What if I want copies of my records?

I must create a confidential and trusted space for us to do our therapeutic work. Release of records may occur in the form of a treatment summary.
